Note 1: Taxes apply on all Canadian orders and vary according to jurisdiction (GST or HST). See current tax rates by provincial and territorial jurisdiction in the table below. Orders placed by US clients who do not have a residence or established business address in Canada are typically not subject to taxes. First-time clients are required to complete HST exemption claim forms in order to avoid being subject to Canadian taxes. Downloadable HST exemption claim form is available in MSWord format or .pdf format.
(a) The HST in BC was overturned in a 2011 referendum. Accordingly, BC will return to a 7% PST plus 5% GST regime on April 1, 2013. BC still has some sales taxes, such as the tax on designated property (vehicles, boats and aircraft). See the link above to BC Consumer Taxes for more information. For more info, see HSTinBC.ca (Return to PST).
(b) Ontario still has retail sales tax on insurance and on private sales of used motor vehicles. See the link to Ontario Retail Sales Tax for more information.
(c) Effective January 1, 2013, the QST rate is 9.975%, but it is no longer charged on GST (as was the case in the past). The effect is that there is no change to the total tax.
(d) The sales tax in PE is applied to the total of the selling price plus the GST. Prince Edward Island is entering into formal negotiations with the federal government to implement a harmonized sales tax (HST), effective April 1, 2013. The combined HST rate will be 14%.
Note on GST and HST: As an Ontario-based incorporated entity and registrant for sales tax purposes, wedotranslation inc. adds the GST only to invoices issued to clients in provinces where there is no HST regime in place (i.e. GST only applies to clients located in AB, SK, MB, QC, PE, NT, NY and YT).

Note 2: Translation is quoted and billed according to the technical complexity and/or difficulty of the subject matter, the higher of the word count between the source and target languages (highest volume of words), source and target languages (i.e. language pair), type of document and file format, language resource availability, as well as formatting and deadline requirements. Word counts are not aggregated over multiple assignments submitted at different times; in other words, word count rates are applied on the basis of the total word count of documents submitted together at the same time. Please contact the wedotranslation Coordinator for a quote.
Note 3: Proofreading included in per word rate when wedotranslation has done the translation.
Note 4: The word rate is applied to the higher of the word count between the source and target languages.
Note 5: All project quotes and services rendered are subject to the terms & conditions of wedotranslation inc's Business Terms of Service. Quotes are subject to resource availability on the date they are issued. Accordingly, quotes become stale dated after two business days have elapsed and are subject to re-confirmation if order confirmation is delayed beyond the stale date.

Payment Terms
All payment terms for first-time (new) clients are established on a case-by-case basis. Generally, our payment terms are as follows:
Projects $200.00 or less (New Clients): Full payment is required upfront.
Projects over $200.00 (New Clients): We require a 50% deposit upfront and the outstanding balance must be paid within 30 days of the date of issue on the invoice. All certified translation assignments must be paid in full prior to delivery of finalized translation, i.e. after draft is approved by the client.
Government and regular clients: Please call our office to discuss payment terms. Generally, all invoices are Net 30 days.
Cancellation: Projects are subject to a minimum administration fee of $75.00 plus any processing/handling and/or translation work that has been performed.
Changes: If changes to the text are required once a translation project is underway, the text that has been translated will be added to the word count of the updated document.
All translations are NOT created equal
All rates listed apply to the majority of English ↔ French, English ↔ Spanish and French ↔ Spanish assignments. The same rates may or may not apply to other language pairs. Language resources for some languages may be difficult to source and, in such circumstances, premium rates may apply. Please call Toll Free 1-888-722-3515 (or
e-mail) to discuss your specific requirements.
A Note on Translation Rates:
The translation sector is not immune to the supply and demand dynamics of the marketplace. In that context, our standard or posted rates should be viewed as a guide.
Also, not all translators are created equal. As a translation agency we do our best to place translation assignments with the best available resource(s).
Competent resources for some languages or technical topics are more difficult to source than others. (Tight deadline requirements may also be a significant cost element under such circumstances.)
As an example, there are only two resources listed in our database that qualify to certify Japanese to English document translations. Moreover, these resources may not necessarily be available on short notice. When they are available, the costs quoted to us may be high – in fact, way higher than our posted rates.
It's important to keep in mind that premium rates may also apply based on technical difficulty, urgency, and file type (since file formatting may be required).
Finally, we do want your business and we will quote you a competitive price to get it. But, we will not compromise our quality standards to get business (see also: Where to Find Cheap Translation).
