Online affiliate programs are common currency on the internet. In fact, amazon.com runs one of the biggest affiliate programs on the web. But you don't have to be a behemoth like amazon.com to set up your own affiliate program. Setting up a an affiliate program takes some time and effort, but it's not all that complicated.
Setting up an affiliate back-end on your website can be technically challenging. However, there exists a number of off-the-shelf affiliate tracking applications that can be easily installed by you or your webmaster in less than a couple of hours. We use an affiliate application licensed from iDevAffiliate for our CILFO Translations Agency translation affiliate program. It's a one-time licensing fee and their pricing is quite reasonable.
The bulk of the time you invest in setting up an affiliate program will be in the developing all of your support material: an affiliate agreement; a description of your affiliate program; text links and banners; and, of course, the required web pages for your website.
