Translation Marketing

Thoughts on the Foundational Elements of Translation Marketing

There are four parts to the ultimate marketing strategy, also known as MMMB: Market; Message; Medium: and, Backend.

Part 1: Market
  • Who is your audience or customer? What target audience is most likely to buy?
  • Attempting to be all things to all people is the equivalent of being no thing to no people. You want to be a big fish in a small pond.
  • Who are your best buyers? If you can't define them, you can't find them.
  • Pay attention to demographics.
  • Also pay attention to psychographics: What are your buyers' buying patterns? How do your buyers think?
Part 2: Message
  • There are only two things that every customer is asking: Why should I buy this? And, why should I buy this from you? So you have to position yourself into your client's mind. To do so, you must have Unique Selling Proposition (USP) – the key word is Selling. What is your primary distinguishing feature? What distinguishes you from anyone else?

Some famous corporate USPs:

– User-Friendly Computer

– Delivered in 30 minutes or free

– When it absolutely has be there on time

  • You must establish trust and credibility and so your USP must be customer-oriented. You need to claim the 'expert' position – often accomplished through education: develop an instruction booklet; write a newsletter, deliver a seminar; write articles.
  • Write a USP – Don't come at it from where you are, but go at it from where you would like to be positioned.
Part 3: Medium

Two mediums that are extremely effective

a) Referral Marketing (word-of-mouth is the most credible)

It must be a formalized system, i.e. a methodology that works on a repeatable basis. Its elements include:

· It must have a name;

· How it works must be defined and documented;

· The benefits must be spelled out;

· The tools must be identified and readily available to make it easy;

· You must provide coaching.

The ultimate goal is to organize a little army that is working for you.

b) Joint-Venture Endorsed Mailing Systems

The key is to gains access to lists of prospects that you want to reach. Only cut joint-venture deals with people or organizations that have a database of contacts and create an e-mail letter. The benefits include:

· Instant credibility with your target market; · 20 times more effective than direct mail.

Part 4: Backend

FEBE Strategy (Front End; Back End) — The headaches are in the front end, the assets are in the back end

The Front End is the method by which they get to know you and the Back End is the system by which you get them to continue buying from you. You have to have both strategies in place and you have to be good at both. Always be tweaking and improving both. The front end and back end are usually different

The way that you attract new prospects in the door has to be systemized and you have to have a front end system to accomplish that. The key to getting clients the first time is to do something for them that is irresistible. It must be "super easy" in order to hook them in.

Offer exceptional value in the front end. Ideally it should combine a low investment in time and a low investment in money. Give away lots of information, like a hard copy report.

The back end is the funnel. You need to have several, progressive services in place to offer your clients.

Overview of the Global Language Landscape, Number of Internet Users and Languages in Use on the Worldwide Web

As of June 2008, approximately 1,463,632,361 people worldwide were using the Internet, according to Internet World Stats. Current and accurate data, with respect to internet usage, is somewhat elusive given the rapid growth and spread of the internet. However, useful data can be gleaned from information available in the CIA World Factbook. We feature selected data taken the CIA Factbook on the following Free Translation Classifieds categories: Translation Agencies and Translation Firms. We have listed data by commercial geographic areas in those categories, namely North America; Europe; South America; Asia; and, the Middle East. The figures are segmented for each country listed by total population numbers, languages spoken (numbers and percentages, where available) and number of internet users. The number of countries listed as well as the scope of the data was limited to markets offering commercially viable critical mass.
